The Apprentice – countdown to Sir Alan Sugar’s next business partner!

In the penultimate episode of The Apprentice last night we witnessed some classic scenes & ‘one-liners’. Whilst we may laugh at the screen and insist we’d never make those blunders, I am sure we can all actually learn from the contestants and make sure when going for an interview or applying for a job that we thoroughly research the company/role and get our facts right when questioned, rather than blagging the figures like Jim so embarrassingly did last night:-

- So 60 people spending £7 each - what have you got? £4200 ... mmm, try again £4800. NOOOOO!! Jim (‘macho nacho man’) should have been prepared for this question, its basic business acumen, but as he wasn’t he completely made it up and as a result looked like an idiot. Know your figures inside out before you go into an interview for any role that requires such experience!!

- Columbus didn’t discover the potato and he wasn’t British, he was Italian!! I am surprised this wasn’t picked up in the boardroom, just for a laugh. Get your facts right before making such claims!

- "What does Caracas mean?" "I dunno, but it sounds like 'maracas'. "Maracas are Mexican." Maracas are Spanish. Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, not in Mexico – nice one guys!! Another huge blunder, I appreciate they are really under pressure with these tasks and certainly some of what they achieve is incredible in such a short space of time, but this is their brand name & was a sloppy oversight.

Sir Alan Sugar added to the fun last night throwing in about his degree in first aid (!!??) and that the food served up by Jim’s team resembled something that his Son’s dog would puke up!!

Really looking forward to next week’s episode where their business plans will be ripped apart by Sir Alan’s team and the ultimate winner will be crowned. Mmm, who will it be?

Apprentice Review – Philip in the Lead

So the Apprentice 2009 is now entering week four and we are starting to get an idea of the runners and riders. My tip for the possible winner was as good as my horse in the Grand National. Poor Rocky managed to mess up the perfect task for him and was sent home with a lesson learnt!!

James is making great TV and I am sure for that reason alone he will stay in for a couple more weeks.

Having looked again at the candidates it seems as if Philip is now the front runner. He has a clear head, seems to be able to lead and is well liked by the others. The only issue is that he seems to be able to moan for England and that might get on Alan Sugars wick in the end. I would like to see him as project manager to see if he copes.

It seems even the sacked candidates like Philip:

More Sugar - The Apprentice 2009

The Apprentice kicks off again this week and at e-recruitment buddy we can’t wait. We have been fans since the first series and love to watch the aspiring baby Alan Sugars fluff simple tasks, stitch each other up and fight for who is the most nakedly ambitious wannabe.

If the previous series has taught us anything it is that Sir Alan doesn’t like posh academics, lawyers and strong minded women. Saira Khan should have won the first series, Ruth Badger was head & shoulders above everyone else in series 2 and last year Claire Young somehow lost out to Lee “now that’s what I am talking about” McQueen who even lied on his CV and somehow still won!

Looking at this years candidates I have a feeling that Ben Clarke and Kate Walsh are possessed by the kind of hubris that could see them leave the show early. If I was a betting person then I would place a few quid on either Lorraine Tighe or Rocky Andrews as they have the sort of background that seems to appeal to Sir Alan. Roll on murder in the boardroom and back-stabbing in the house!

This is classic Apprentice, terrible decisions & Rory Lang “I am your boss!”
